Flightless Fruit Fly Cultures--Hydei--Freshly Started

Product Description

Flightless fruit flies (Drosophila hydei) are about ⅛” and are a great feeder for small lizards, spiders, mantids and frogs. Each culture will arrive with at least 40-50 live fruit flies.

These are producing cultures that are about 2 weeks old. They will continue producing new flies for another two to three weeks. These are flightless fruit flies, not wingless.

Hydei Fruit Flies (Drosophila hydei) are a nutritious, easy-to-feed live feeder insect ideal for small reptiles, amphibians, arachnids, and other insect-eating pets. Larger than Melanogaster fruit flies, Hydei are a great choice for animals that need a slightly larger feeder while still requiring small prey.

Our Hydei Fruit Fly cultures are flightless, making feeding easier and helping keep escapees under control. They are an excellent way to encourage natural hunting and foraging behaviors.

Great for:

• Dart frogs and other small frogs

• Baby and juvenile reptiles

• Jumping spiders

• Small geckos

• Praying mantises

• Other small insect-eating pets

Why Choose Hydei Fruit Flies?

Hydei are larger than Melanogaster fruit flies, providing a more substantial feeder for growing or larger animals. Cultures can continue producing flies over time when kept under proper conditions, making them a convenient live-food option.

Care Tip: Keep the culture at room temperature and out of direct sunlight or excessive heat. For best results, allow the culture to establish and produce before heavy feeding.
